Torrents

A catalog of .torrent files. Each file is public or private (BitTorrent private flag) — never both. Item visibility is separate; a private file can never be listed as public.

What a torrent is

  • Not a blog post. Identity is the info-hash. The name, notes, tags, and visibility live on the torrent item.
  • Contents are the files inside the .torrent, each with its size — the Drupal torrent-contents list.
  • Opening the panel scrapes trackers (seeds / peers / snatched). Last successful scrape is stored.

Private tracker

  • HTTP(S) only. Every announce and scrape requires a Postgres passkey (Settings). LDAP never stores it.
  • Only private files announce here. Public files keep public trackers and must never carry this announce URL.
  • Ratio is bytes uploaded ÷ bytes downloaded. Completions (snatches) are stored per user per torrent.
  • Passkey is stamped onto the .torrent when a member downloads a private file, not on disk.
  • Choosing public vs private at upload sets info.private (hash changes if the uploaded file differed). The type does not flip later.

Browsing

  • Search names and inner file paths (?q=). Letters are A–Z of the torrent name (?letter=). Tags and Mine as usual.
  • Dice, clock, and history are a random torrent, newest uploads, or oldest uploads. Each row shows upload date. Account Settings set the default cards vs single-line list layout; torrent prefs can override. Public RSS: /rss/torrents.xml (optional ?tag=).

Subtitles

  • Signed-in members see a Subtitles button (captions icon) when we hold a subtitle track for the videos: a subtitle file shipped in the torrent, a track pulled from the video itself, or a speech-to-text transcript. Each downloads as an .srt (or .vtt).
  • The same English tracks are what spoken-words search searches.

Who can do what

  • Create: any signed-in member (upload a .torrent first). LDAP groups are for moderation.
  • Edit: attach images/audio/video/PDF/eml into Notes, or upload a new .torrent to replace the catalog file (info-hash may change). Name/notes: the author or torrent mods. Announce list: torrent mods and hub. Delete: torrent mods and hub.

Who can see it

  • Public — everyone, signed in or not.
  • Members — anyone signed in on this origin. Guests get a login prompt.
  • Unpublished — you and the kind’s mods. Guests get a plain 404, so nothing leaks.
  • New items default to public. You can change it any time unless a mod locks it.
