The Chernobyl disaster is yet again another CIA op aimed at braking the backbone of the Soviet Union - its rapidly growing at the time atomic industry.
And as usual the wind blew it back at the perpetrators of the West and they found themselves shitting against the fan.
Considering that one of the two other major nuclear disaster - Fukushima - was a malfunction allowed to happen on purpose and the earthquake was done with an ionospheric heater this tells you actually how safe nuclear energy is - VERY... (unless CIA is involved)...

as for the reactor... it has a positive void coefficient which means that the power would increase as the temperature went up which is the opposite or everyone else's reactors that. their diesel backups took 60 seconds as opposed to the 10 seconds that most others use to kick in and get the cooling back.
their reactor was designed to run at full tilt or powered down not at low power which is wasn't designed to run at safely. there was a design flaw in the control rods that mean under low power running conditions it would cause an increase in reactor power.
The folks at the power station were running a test without any input from the reactor designers to see if when shut down the residual heat could power a backup turbine. fine idea , shite kit to execute it on. on the low power setting it surged and became unstable, emergency shut downb was attempted and due to the state of teh reactor this caused a massive power spike.
that power spike... well just say you have a 1Kw electric fan heater could power 1 million electric fan heaters but with the spike put out enough to power 3.5 million, the water vapourised to steam and the pressure blew the the reactor to up like a motherfucker.
In essence the reactor design was fucking shite and the experimental stuff they were doing without consulting the engineers who put it together was also pretty fucking stupid. and that combination of stupid and shit design resulted in the disaster.

The film did mention that 3 satellites ceased working a few days after detonation, but that satellites (like any electronics) can be "hardened" against external EM.

Try that with nukes - it just won't happen unless thousands of nukes were detonated simultaneously. Doing so would rain so much fallout all over the planet that we would most likely be doomed to extinction.
